Floral Polka Dots

Outfit Details: Dress: ?; Cardigan (old): Gap; Shoes: K-mart.

While on vacation I picked up this dress and one other from a cute little boutique. Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember the name of it and the bag they gave me didn’t have a name on it either! I ended up wearing this to my appointment with my hairstylist on one particularly sunny day. Highlights and a haircut definitely fixed up my hair after vacation!

In the height of awesomeness, I went to Starbucks the other day (and I was running late and starving since I hadn’t eaten breakfast) and when I pulled up to the window someone had already paid for my stuff. Pay it forward! However, my attempt to pay it forward this morning was thwarted since I was the only person in the drive thru.

Only Daylight Souvenirs

Outfit Details: Headband: gift; Tank: Kirra, gift; Necklace: gift; Shorts (old): American Eagle; Sandals: K-mart.

I wore this Tuesday, because instead of getting dressed after work on Monday I fell into bed and didn’t wake up until 6pm! So this hair has been twice slept on (Monday afternoon and Monday night).

I actually created this outfit around the headband. I pulled it out of a drawer in my bathroom to keep my hair back while I washed my face. Then I decided I liked the contrast with my hair and went hunting for a blue top. One I found the tank, the rest of the outfit just fell into place. Can you tell I’ve been thinking summer a lot?

Second day hair always seems to be a little bit better than the first. The messy bedhead look is always what I’m going for. As for these sandals–I predict they’ll be my summer staple. I keep gravitating towards them every day!

Title stolen from this song.

Leprechaun Shoes

Outfit Details: Shirt: Cotton Candy, via local boutique; Jeans: Per Se; Shoes: thrifted.

I thrifted these shoes awhile ago, when I had a very fun and long shopping day with two friends. These were one of the two pairs of shoes I picked up. I couldn’t pass up the pretty green, and as a bonus–they looked like leprechaun shoes. I still have no clue why I consider that a bonus, but it totally is.

In other news, after figuring I could manage blogging again with my new job, I managed to get ill. Tuesday was feverish fun, Wednesday was swollen neck glands, coughing, painful swallowing, and really painful headache, and Thursday was just painful swallowing. I should (hopefully) be back to tip top shape again by today.

My (newest) goal for this blog is to attempt some easy hairstyles from time to time to enhance my outfits.  Hair can really make or break a look, I think, and I’d really like to get back into having fun with my hair, especially since its getting longer now.

Outfit Details: Sheer Top: Romy; Tank: American Eagle; Jeans: Current Elliott, via BeyondtheRack; Shoes: TJ Maxx.

The only way I can describe today’s outfit is: pleased. Last night I pinned a double twist tuck, and I told myself i would do it after I worked out and showered. And I actually did it! (There are many things I say I will do, and just ‘never get around to it.’)

I built my outfit around the hair. I’ve wanted to pair these jeans with heels for awhile but the timing never seemed right. I picked the pink top because I felt like pairing red and pink together again. I also thought it added to the romantic-ness of the hair.

I had to change later though because it started SNOWING (I know. It’s almost March. And we got snow.) and because I had to work.

Sadly, the hair/makeup shot is a bathroom shot. I could not for the life of me get a decent shot while outdoors. I just went with a simple cat eye and mascara. The best part about the hair thought? It stayed in all day. I had it in for ten hours, and I did not use hairspray except on the back! Even if it got messier–it looked like it was supposed to be that way! I’ll definitely be doing this one again, plus it’s much easier than a french braid.

Q is for Quick

Outfit Details: Cardigan: August Rush, via Ross; Tank: American Eagle; Jeans: Per Se, via Ross; Shoes: Bandolino, via Macy’s; Necklace: gift.

IMG_4680-1For me, my quick & easy formula when I need to get dressed and run out the door are jeans+boots+tank/tee+cardigan. It’s simple, it’s quick and most of the items are within an easy reach in my bedroom. No digging through my closet, not much effort required.

Of course, if your hair is styled, it really helps the I’m-put-together vibe you’re trying to give off. Curls dress anything up.

Freckles in AprilIMG_4680-1

I’ve been considering something like this for awhile now. This dress is one of my favorite pieces in my closet and I’ve thought of at least a dozen ways to wear it. This is only one of them.

When I ran across the Winter Challenge (I’m always a day late, aren’t I?), I saw they were doing monotone today. Which is my favorite. I love monotone outfits. I usually always pick something obscenely bright (see red and pink). However, the ABCs of style was doing Glam and Glitter. So I toned myself down with this cream ensemble (though admittedly, the tights are a bit white for it).

I actually attempted three hairstyles before I settled on this one. The others were a beehive and a side bun, and they just would not turn out. Finally I just threw up my hands and did this. I also attempted a glam makeup look with a dark lipstick and cat eyes.

I actually had a different pair of earrings I planned on wearing, but I could not find them for the life of me! These ones also have a bit of sparkle to them, though.

Hair Inspiration: Game of Thrones

After finishing A Dance With Dragons, I immediately set about to watching HBO’s adaptation of the books. In addition to being delighted at the cast, the sets, and everything overall–I loved the hairstyling. I was definitely inspired by the world that HBO created for some of my favorite novels.

I’ve been meaning to hunt up screencaps for awhile, and I finally got around to do it last night with hanging out with a friend. I’m excited to try out my braiding skills to create some of these wonderful looks.

I’ve decided to divide the looks based on character, and I’ve attempted to hunt down different perspectives of all the hairstyles to get the best idea of how to create them.

Let’s start with Queen Cersei:

I’ll be honest and just say I have no idea how to create this. I’m think i could play with it enough to figure it out though. Some rats and rolls and it could quite possibly work.

Twists into braids! Seems easy enough. It’s probably more difficult in execution though.

Sansa Stark:
She only wears about three styles (that I remember) one of which is just like Cersei’s above.

Easy. I’m actually attempting this one tomorrow. I don’t anticipate it giving me any trouble.

I actually did this one on my friend the other night. It’s relatively simple. Sadly, I forgot to take pictures but I’ll probably be doing it on myself (or someone else) again soon enough.

The variation of Queen Cersei’s. I actually like Sansa’s better, even though it looks more difficult.

Daenerys, the Khaleesi:

Daenerys has the most varied hairstyling of the show with lots and lots of braiding involved. I was (so far) unable to find the picture of the one look I wanted but that simply means I’ll have to rewatch the series.

Daenerys’ hair is simple here, her brother’s is a bit more interesting. It gets more complicated as it goes, however!

From one braid to two. Queen Cersei’s hair does something similar (above).

I wish the first one of these wasn’t so tiny, but you get the gist! I anticipate that I’ll easily be able to create this in someone else’s hair (maybe a little easily in my own).

I was lucky to find a back shot of this one! This one would be simply enough to do if I had long enough hair! I might be waiting for my hair to grow out before I can attempt it.

This one is stunning, and I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite.  Hopefully I can figure out some way to achieve it!

It looks like a twist or two twined together, I think. I’m hoping experimentation will yield a similar result!

After seeing all of these, I’m hoping my hair will be a lot less boring this year! I’m going to brush up on my braiding skills and create some wonderful looks. I just hope my wardrobe will be able to keep up.

EBEW: Sequins and Sparkles

Outfit Details: Sequin Tank: eyeshadow, via TJ Maxx (similar); Jeans: Old Navy (exact); Boots: Bandolino, via Macy’s (similar); Earrings: Gift (similar).

Sequins + Sparkles | Everybody, Everywhere

After cleaning out my closet, I got rid of my only sequin tank top. A couple weeks later, while waiting in the checkout line at TJ Maxx, I spotted this sequin tank. I didn’t bother trying it on and just put it in my pile. Perfect replacement! I was kind of worried it wasn’t flattering since I hated it the last time I wore it, but I love it here.

These white jeans with my boots kind of give off an equestrian feel to me. Every single time I’ve worn the combo, I feel like I should hop onto a horse and jump over a couple fences. I kind of love it.

I thought about throwing a cardigan or a long knit over the outfit, and I tried a few–but after awhile I realized I just didn’t need it. The outfit is fine as it is (although the weather helps, a lot. It’s not raining! It’s sunny!).

My trick for hair that hasn’t been washed in two days? Curl it. It gives me enough volume that I can make it through the day, so I can exercise and shower in the evenings. Plus, I love curly hair!

The Redhead Girls Just Ain’t No Good

Outfit Details: Top: Target; Shorts: 17/21, via TJ Maxx; Shoes: Blowfish

As you can see, I now have red hair! I am so happy with it, since I’ve been wanting to go red for awhile but wasn’t sure if I wanted to deal with the upkeep. In addition, my hair actually has some style to it now–the cut was evened out and I decided to get bangs again.

This was the outfit I wore to the salon. No jewelry, since I didn’t want it to get caught in my hair or covered in hair.

Needless to say I am utterly delighted and happy with the change. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Also, these shoes are my most frequently complimented pair. I got 3 compliments on them today. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one obsessed with them–maybe you all won’t mind seeing them so frequently?

In other news–on Wednesday I’ll be seeing the Taylor Swift concert in Tacoma so by the time this is posted, I’ll be driving back home! I promise to post a lot of pictures of the concert, and I’m so excited to go with the rest of my family. 🙂

This post title comes from this song by Shawn Desman. You can watch it here. I totally suggest watching it, it is hilarious!

Is It Charm, Is It Poise? No, It’s Hairspray! (21 Day Challenge)

Outfit Details: Top: TJ Maxx; Skirt: Small local/vintage store; Shoes: Blowfish

I’ve already experimented with my hair once twice during the 21 Day Challenge (here and here), so when I saw this I was like “oh noooo” because I felt like I’d run out of good ideas. Then I decided I was being utterly ridiculous (because I was) and I came up with the hairstyle I’m wearing above. In other news, this is also the third time I’ve worn my remix item (1 and 2). I admit, I want to squeeze it in a couple more times after this. (Excuse the bra showing, I fixed the straps after the pictures…)

Here are a couple details shots of the hairstyle I did.

Essentially it’s a half topsy-turvy. So instead of pulling the hair all the way though, you leave some coming out the top. (Hopefully that makes sense…) I’ll probably make a how-to video if it is still confusing.

I also chose to make it pigtails, because growing out an a-line means I have a lot of length in the front and pretty much none in the back. I had no idea growing it out would be this awful.
