Literature & Lace: Polkadot Jeans

Outfit Details: Tank: unknown; White Tee: Target; Cardigan: Atmosphere, via a little boutique; Polkadot Jeans: Ross; Shoes: Payless (kid’s section); Scarf: J.C. Penney.

I don’t have much to say about this outfit. Mostly because I built it around the fact that I really really wanted to wear these polka dot jeans. Who doesn’t love polka dots?

These sparkle flats from the kid’s section of Payless are another wardrobe staple along with the scarf. I’ve almost worn these flats out completely!

Outfit Details: Jacket: Northface, gift; Scarf: J.C.Penny; Rainboots: Rocketdog, gift; Jeans: Per Se, via Ross.

A Northface jacket is kind of a requirement for living in Washington State. It’s freezing, it’s always raining, and sometimes style comes second to comfort. Luckily, my cozy Northface comes with a cute polka dot print that works well with the only pair of rain boots I have.

Also–I’m obsessed with this scarf. I bought it before Christmas, wear it almost constantly, and I’m not sick of it yet!

Jeans have become a thing of the past, lately. I’ve switched to wearing skirts and dresses–since my workplace requires a business casual style. As much as I have resisted wearing skirts in the past–I’m starting to find I don’t mind it nearly as much as I used to.

And can I just say that I completely foresaw the “mint” trend? I bought this dress off Modcloth a couple years ago and then a year or so later I began to see mint colored items everywhere!

Target Grey

Outfit Detail: Scarf: Rue 21; Sweater: Target; Jeans: Target; Shoes: Steve Madden, via Better Than New.

When I went to review the Jason Wu for Target collection I tried on these jeans too. I loved them, but really couldn’t afford to buy anything at that point so I told myself I would come back later. Well, on Friday, I headed to Target and picked them up! (I planned on snagging the miniskirt I loved last time, too but it was out of stock. I was so upset!) Lucky that I went then, since they were the last pair in my size.

I wanted to do a grey monotone, but I feel like it would have worked better if my grey boots were ankle boots instead of mid calf boots.

Not the Early Bird

Outfit Details: Shirt: Walmart; Scarf: Express, X-mas gift; Skirt: local boutique, Nostalgia; Shoes: Missoni for Target

Friday, the ABC’s of Style was doing yellow which I (obviously) did not participate in. I planned on wearing yellow, but ended up not. Of course, I also forgot to take outfit pictures that day anyway.

I picked up this mustard yellow shirt at Walmart. My mom called me when they were having a great deal on long sleeved shirts since I owned a total of none. This is one of several I picked up and probably my favorite. It’s also one of the few yellow items I own!

The outfit looked a little plain with just skirt, top, and shoes, so I dug through my wardrobe hoping to find a navy scarf. This one is perfect! It even had little flecks of yellow/gold (stars)!

These Missoni for Target flats are my favorite of the two pairs. These are the kid’s shoes, and are definitely more comfortable.

I have also now accepted that this scarf is navy and not black like I originally thought.

M is for Monotone

Freckles in April I’m always in love with Monotone outfits. I’ve done them in pink, red, and white. They’re one of my favorites. This one is no exception. Though I did feel a little dark and depressing, so the scarf bow really helped in that regard.

I almost never wear this coat, because it’s not the most flattering but I still love it. Sometimes I just like wearing things that make me look like a box. I can’t help it!

In other news: an all black outfit is very difficult to get pictures of! Everything just seemed so dark, so my camera had a couple malfunctions (as in the bow detail picture above where it overexposed EVERYTHING).

Freckles in April

I always have so much fun trying out pattern mixing challenges. Today’s outfit was very spur of the moment. I’d just finished laundry so most of these items were lying in easy reach (on my floor). I looked over and saw the floral cardigan and I was like “ah ha! I’ll pair it with something else.” That’s when I rifled through my closet and found this dress. I decided they would go together. And for fun, I threw another patterned scarf on top. Sometimes I love going overboard.

Then I realized I was supposed to be doing this all in jewel tones. Whoops! So I threw on my brightly colored belt instead of my brown one, and then added my favorite pair of pumps.

It feels fun and wild, and simply enjoyable. As a side note: who doesn’t love second day hair that is instantly wearable? It feels all Veronica Lake to me with the curls having been brushed out and swooping around.

F is for Fur

Outfit Details: Vest: Goodwill; Cardigan: gift; T-shirt: Old Navy; Scarf: gift; Jeans: Per Se, via Ross; Boots: Steve Madden.

Fur is not my favorite item to wear, I’ll be honest. I don’t own a lot of it, but on a whim last summer I snagged this vest at the Goodwill in Bellingham. And now, it’s super trendy with its fur lined insides. It’s actually reversible, but I prefer the fur be against my body since it looks weird otherwise.

Even though I threw this together this morning instead of planning it out, I ended up really pleased with how the whole outfit turned out. I feel like I’m getting the hang of this dressing-myself thing.

I loved how the scarf brightens up the whole outfit. I also attempted to try some sort of twisted thing with my hair to get more volume, but it didn’t turn out as I hoped.

You may have noticed I haven’t posted for a couple days. My grandfather is in the hospital right now, so my mom had to fly down to help him out and basically everything is in a crazy limbo.

Inspiration: Scarves

Since I’m still taking care of my friend’s pets and house sitting, so I haven’t gotten dressed in anything other than sweatpants for the last day.

So I decided to post an inspiration post featuring one of my favorite accessories: scarves. It seemed especially timely considering it’s December, and scarves are likely to be a feature in outfits until spring at least!

There’s something here for everyone! Whether you have square or oblong scarves, or thick or thin. Get ready for a picture heavy post…

FYI: I have attempted to give credit to all the pictures. If they do not link to the original website, then I have linked them to pin on pinterest. This is only if the original link no longer works.

And of course, I needed to include some ways to wear scarves other than around your neck. So here are some headscarves too…

Floral Exhaustion

Outfit Details: Floral Top: gift; Tank: gift; Scarf: Rue 21; Jeans: Per Se, via Ross; Boots: Steve Madden.

I’ve been pet and house sitting for a friend for the past several days, and let me tell you–I am exhausted! I’ve hardly gotten any sleep, since her dogs keep me up all night. Long story short: they’re the snuggle-y types, and I’m definitely not a snuggler when I’m attempted to sleep.

I’ve taken to sleeping a little bit during the day to try and catch up on the sleep front, the pretty much means it gets dark by the time I even think about taking outfit photos. Luckily, my friend gets back from Vegas on the 23rd, so once Friday hits I should be able to get back to my typical routine.

In other news, this floral top was a late birthday present. Of course, I immediately had to wear it.
